School of Business and Management

My Courses for Fall 2005
bulletCommunication (COM 101)
bulletEconomics (ECO 201)
bulletMathematics (MTH 002)
bulletBusiness Information Systems (BIS 101)
bulletPhysics (PHY 100)

My first choice was SBM when I applied to AUS and my major choice was Management & Marketing. SBM is the best business school in the region. It offers the best faculty and facilities available, the method of teaching at SBM is unique and really successful. Even though every instructor has its own way of teaching but the general format that I feel is being followed at SBM is that more individual attention is given by having a reasonably sized class rooms and there is more interaction between instructor and student.

The wireless and LAB facility provided at SBM are just great and the introduction of e-learning has made the entire learning process even more effective.

The only thing that I strongly disagree with SBM is the compulsory purchase of IBM ThinkPad's for SBM students. What really struck me was that IBM ThinkPad with the almost the same  configuration is being sold for just 2900 DHS. We'll I guess who ever made this contract with IBM should be forced to take some courses in Business as well so that next time SBM students get a better deal!!!

Following is an overview of my courses for Spring 2005.

All the information below about courses and instructors is nothing personal and it is just me expressing my self freely without any hard feeling for any instructor. I hope no one has an objection to the right of free speech for all.

COM 101

Instructor - Anne Shine

This isn't a really demanding course but my instructor gives a lot of reading material which I guess will help me now and later on. Teaching style of Mrs. Anne Shine is really good and  I would suggest all of the future COM 101 students to take this course with her.

ECO 201

Instructor -Dr. Antonio Saravia

Economics has never been interesting to me, in fact it was my worst subject until I landed in Dr. Antonio's class. This instructor has a really different style of teaching economics, and he really made economics interesting unlike before when I usually used to sleep through my economics class or just wait patiently for the class finish. I would strongly recommend students at AUS to take ECO 201 or any other economics course with Dr Saravia.

MTH 002

Instructor -Dr. Lela Eberlein

I didn't take mathematics in grade 11 and 12 so now I'm paying the price of that, as I have to take this 002 course. The course isn't that much demanding and the instructor is really soft spoken and she goes step by step on each and every problem, helps all the students and unlike most of the other teacher she knows where her each student stands academically. I would also recommend Dr. Eberlein to all the future and current students of MTH 002 course.

BIS 101

Instructor - Mr. Frank Campa

This course is focused on preparing students to use the different business tools (programs like Microsoft Excel, FrontPage and  Access). Well I really struggled with Excel and had a really tough time but now I am comfortable with FrontPage and Access. This site that you are viewing right now is part of my FrontPage project. I had learned HTML almost two or three years back so that really did help me in this course and Access will not be much of a problem as well as I had used Access before to make a library project for my  final exam for IGCSE exam. I think this course was the most demanding amongst all the rest and I would strongly suggest to all the future BIS 101 students to take this seriously from day one and one thing that I really didn't like about this course was that it has a minimum 70 % passing grade.

PHY 100

Instructor - Tariq Majeed

This is a free elective course and to be honest with you I really hate it. I took it because I really like physics among all the science subjects in school, but this course really changed all that for me. Even though the book we are using for this course is the same one that I used for my grade 11 course but the my instructor has really confused me. His style of teaching is totally non-typical. Through out the one hour class the instructor just keeps on speaking and speaking and literally everyone is sleeping in his class (no kidding). There is absolute no interaction between the student and teacher and if you ask him a question he will just refer read the same thing which you were not able to understand. I would really really strongly recommend all the future PHY 100 students that they should really pick some other instructor.
